About
Boston's bad boys and the most homegrown FM-rock institution this city has ever produced. Steven Tyler scarves, Joe Perry sneer, Joey Kramer pocket — five guys who started in a Commonwealth Avenue apartment in 1970 and turned into one of the best-selling American hard-rock bands ever ('Toys in the Attic,' 'Rocks,' 'Pump,' 'Get a Grip'). The Run-DMC 'Walk This Way' rerun in 1986 invented the rock-rap collab and hauled them out of their late-70s coke-and-heroin valley. The mid-80s rebirth gave them MTV ('Dude (Looks Like a Lady),' 'Janie's Got a Gun'), the 90s gave them the power ballads, and the catalog has been shaping how Boston listens to rock radio ever since.
